Why Start Your Master’s in January? (2027 Intake)

Rate this post

For most people, “going back to school” means September. But if you’ve decided you want a Master’s degree, there’s no reason to wait until autumn. Starting your Master’s in January lets you begin as soon as you’re ready – and in many ways, it’s the smarter choice.

Start Your Master's in January

At HTL International School, our Master’s programmes start in January 2027, and enrolment is open until 30 November 2026. Here’s why so many of our students choose to start in the new year.

6 reasons to start your Master’s in January

1. You don’t put your plans on hold

If you finished your Bachelor’s in summer, or decided this autumn that it’s time for a change, you don’t need to wait for the next academic year. Starting in January puts you back on track straight away – you’ll finish sooner and reach the job market sooner too.

2. A new year is the perfect fresh start

January is when we set goals and actually feel motivated to follow them. Channel that energy into something that changes your career, not just a resolution that fades by February. You start the year with a clear plan and finish it with a Master’s degree well under way.

3. Time to prepare properly

The autumn months give you room to get organised: finish current commitments, save money, sort out documents, arrange accommodation in Barcelona or set up your home study space. Arriving prepared means you can focus fully on your studies from day one.

4. Smaller groups, more attention

January cohorts are often more compact than the autumn intake. That means more interaction with lecturers, more space to ask questions and a closer network of classmates from around the world – people who will become part of your professional circle.

5. Your internship lands at a good moment

Every HTL Master’s includes a compulsory internship module, in Spain or abroad. Starting in January means your internship falls right in the summer high season – the time of year when hospitality, tourism, events and marketing companies need interns most. You gain experience exactly when the industry needs people most.

6. Standing out to employers

Graduating outside the usual October-to-June calendar means you can enter the job market when fewer new graduates are competing for the same roles. Your CV arrives with a recent Master’s and hands-on internship experience – a strong combination for any recruiter.
